An Authoritative database is a database that has a distinct quality. To become an Authoritative Database, we have to have permission to convert it into the OmegaWiki format and, we are allowed to further annotate the data in the Community Database.

[edit] The database lists

Within Wikiproteins there is;

[edit] Databases of different domains

As OmegaWiki aims to include the terminology of all domains, and as Authoritative Databases can originate from many domains, there will be overlap between the many Authoritative Databases. When the terminology between two databases is the same, the DefinedMeanings of the two databases can be connected. When the terminology of multiple domains is mapped to the same underlying concept, it becomes possible to relate information of one domain with information of another.

[edit] Collections in the Community Database

Each Authoritative Database will be represented by a Collection. The key of the record of the Authoritative database will be used to relate it to the record in the Community Database.

[edit] Mapping of relations into the Community Database

Each Authoritative Database has its own relations. The relation types they use are not necessarily the same even when they have the same name. It is for this reason that care must be given when relations that originate from one domain are compared with the relations from another.

[edit] Overlap in Meta terminology

In certain domains particular terminology is used that is in contrast to terminology of another domain. We envision that when this happens, we will need to make it part of the user preferences what terminology is to be shown. The upside of this is that the same information can be provided in a familiar way, the downside is that the two domains will not be aware of the "artificial" difference.

[edit] The language of Authoritative Databases

Many Authoritative Databases include annotation. When this annotation exists of a free format text, the language used is often prescribed. The consequence is that for annotations to be considered for inclusion back into the Authoritative Database, the language for annotation in the Community Database has to be in the prescribed language. These types of annotation will almost always be part of a Wiki for Professionals, consequently it is up to its community how they deal with this.

[edit] Definitions of Authoritative Databases

When DefinedMeanings of different Authoritative Databases are mapped, there can still be only one Definition that is the defining definition. This does not mean at all that the other definitions are irrelevant. These definitions are to be seen as Alternative definitions.
