DefinedMeaning talk:Turkish (6296)

A Turkic language spoken primarily in Turkey, Cyprus, and other countries of the former Ottoman Empire.

I think definitions beginning with a are not good. There should be here a definite description (beginning with the). For instance, "the main language spoken in Turkey". Otherwise it is hard to translate the word. The definition might pick out Turkish uniquely but it takes too much research to establish this.
The definitions have two purposes: to specify the meaning for distinction from other concepts, and to give a first idea of the thing. The present definition serves only the second purpose. I don't object to combining the two (this would be the best thing to do) but the first is absolutely necessary. Andres 10:26, 15 November 2006 (CET)
