The english expression "charm" has the second meaning "amulet, magic spell, talisman". For the meaning "attractiveness, ability to sweet-talk", the plural "charms" is better as it can't be misunderstood.

Example:

His charm worked a great deal to win her favour. -> His magic spell (love amulet?) worked a great deal to win her favour.

His charms worked a great deal to win her favour. -> His attractiveness (sweet-talking) worked a great deal to win her favour. --Mkill 11:04, 4 March 2007 (EST)
