I wonder whether a better definition is possible. This definition ("Any kind of solid material divided in particles of very small size.") does not distinguish from aerosols. Is soot considered dust? how about smoke particles? viruses? I think dust carries the characteristic of being easily be lifted up by the wind, but also settling down easily, unlike aerosols, which are particles of matter "floating" in air. I suggest the following def: "Any finely powdered substance that can easily be lifted up by the wind and can settle down easily." --InfoCan 18:50, 2 April 2012 (CEST)
