DefinedMeaning talk:motorway (2420)
This entry really needs some work.
The Finnish and Greek entries appear to have multiple expressions in one entry.
The English expressions are highly regional, not only between countries but within countries. I split the terms between the UK and the US even though I think we would probably need entries for usage in Canada, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand as well. I chose highway as the generic English word because I think that's the most likely one to be understood across borders even if it's not the best word in a particular country (e.g. in England, motorway is pretty much the only word used, "thruway" is not likely to be understood and even I had no idea what "pike" meant. On the other hand, Americans I speak to often have no idea what "motorway" means).
"throughway", "thruway", "pike" and "turnpike" appear to mean a toll-road, perhaps those should be a different defined meaning? --Nikki 21:36, 16 July 2008 (EDT)
