Expression talk:livid

This entry says livid means "angry" but it actually means a color such as "pale". I'm sure the confusion is based on the the phrase that someone was "livid with anger". see the definition at : http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/livid hmm. that definition says anger is a definition too. (definition 3) I remember my English teacher pointing this word out as not meaning what we think it means. sigh.

That's probably how this meaning originated. Many dictionaries, including Merriam-Webster's, Oxford, Cambridge, now list "very angry" as separate meaning, see here: http://www.onelook.com/?w=livid&ls=a --Tosca 16:28, 29 March 2007 (EDT)
