This article (sibling) needs attention because:
better def needed
It has been added to this category for attention. Thank you for your patience.

Current definition "A person's brother or sister." is circular if I translate it into Turkish (a person's male or female sibling). Better def: "A person having the same parents". --InfoCan 18:29, 21 March 2012 (CET)

This might be a case where the specificity of a particular language create an exception to the rule that the definitions should be exactly translated (i.e. we could keep the English def, but write it differently in Turkish). There was a similar issue with Chinese here.
We can also of course change the English definition... I don't have anything against either definition.
If we adapt it from the definition of "brother", we would have:
"A person who has the same parents as another person."

I think your definition is more precise, I changed tur, fra + eng.

  • The definition in language "nld" (Dutch) is out of sync.
  • The definition in language "spa" (Spanish) is out of sync.
  • The definition in language "pms" (Piemontese) is out of sync.
  • {{outofsync|tel}} Changed. — Veeven (talk) 13:54, 16 October 2013 (CEST)
