This article (uncle) needs attention because:
need to disambiguate
It has been added to this category for attention. Thank you for your patience.

In Turkish there are separate words for "brother of mother" (dayı), "brother of father" (amca), "husband of one's mother's sister or father's sister." (enişte). In English all these concepts are expressed with one word, uncle. So uncle is an ambiguous translation of these three Turkish words. I propose to split the definition of "uncle" in the following manner:

  • DM1: Brother of one's mother.
Eng: uncle
Tur: amca
  • DM2: Brother of one's father.
Eng: uncle
Tur: dayı
  • DM3: Husband of one's mother's sister or father's sister.
Eng: uncle
Tur: enişte
