I want it now ;)
OmegaWiki blog
Anyone who is interested may read the OmegaWiki blog for updates, discussion, and information. Please leave comments there, too. —Dvortygirl 22:35, 19 February 2006 (CET)
- The OmegaWiki blog has moved (as the project is no longer called WiktionaryZ). Downchuck 00:28, 27 April 2007 (EDT)
- WiktionaryZ was changed by a bot.. it apparently missed this one. It is fixed now. GerardM 03:26, 27 April 2007 (EDT)
Name
Could we PLEASE change the name of this project to something other than "WiktionaryZ"? It is the worst name ever. Even the long "Ultimate Wiktionary" is better. Jon Harald Søby 12:56, 25 February 2006 (CET)
- It is a matter of taste. I am against it because we need some stability, I was not in favour of the first change either. Complaining does not help, when you want to have a better name you will first have to come up with something that is much better. After this you will have to convince everyone that there should be a change. GerardM 14:16, 25 February 2006 (CET)
FAQ page
- project:FAQ should be located and mentioned somewhere. Gangleri | T 15:45, 12 March 2006 (CET)
- It should include the / some "good to know"'s. Gangleri | T 16:09, 12 March 2006 (CET)
editing the GEMET namespace
- First time I see a rendered page (GEMET:νερό) and an "edit" tab but no content / source code at all. Please provide some explanations. Thanks in advance! Regards Gangleri | T 15:45, 12 March 2006 (CET)
- There is no "content" in the traditional sense. The data is relational. GerardM 16:01, 12 March 2006 (CET)
adding definitions to GEMET:water
- Until we know how this works please add the definitions to GEMET talk:water. Regards Gangleri | T 17:18, 12 March 2006 (CET)
adding a thematic link collection
- It would nice to have a thematic link collection where visitors / contributors could read about the new concepts implemented in "OmegaWiki". Regards Gangleri | T 10:52, 13 March 2006 (CET)
language search / categories
- Example: GEMET:νερό is a Greek word. How can visitors / contributors list all Greek titles in the GEMET namespace? Regards Gangleri | T 10:52, 13 March 2006 (CET)
RTL translations
Are there any titles from languages using a right to left script in the the GEMET namespace? Regards Gangleri | T 10:52, 13 March 2006 (CET)
- Not yet. GerardM 10:55, 13 March 2006 (CET)
Babel or Meta:Babel
This is a typical page for the project namespace. Decision about the usage should be done at an early stage because of subsequent changes; see special:Whatlinkshere/Babel. Regards Gangleri | T 20:18, 13 March 2006 (CET)
upper / lower case conventions
It would be a good idea to limit "$wgCapitalLinks = false topics to certain namespaces. Personaly I see no much use in distinguishing templates, categories staring with an upper / lower case letter. If some languages (Klingon etc.) would require such templates, categories etc. then it would be a good idea to enable these later. MediaZilla:03904 is about pages in the user and user talk namespace starting with lower case letters as user:gangleri T. Regards Gangleri | T
floating Babel templates
→ MediaZilla:00364 – "Optional parameters (and/or default parameter values) in templates"
User:Gangleri/RTL is using template:Babel-8 with the "|float=left" option. Some users would like to create their user page RTL. Schould this option be implemented in all Babel templates?
- Some tests to understand default parameters in templates are available at commons:user:Gangleri/tests/template:description. Best regards Gangleri | T 02:33, 14 March 2006 (CET)
- I'm running across the same issue now, with Multilingual MediaWiki. There is no css tag for "opposite" / "adjacent", two words which might work well for multilingual templates. Disregarding (for now) that the tags are English-only, does anyone have ideas or resources I can look into? Downchuck 15:33, 28 April 2007 (EDT)
language depending font size
A known problem in multilingual context is to find the most suitable fonts and fontsizes for text in different languages on the same page / in the same sentence. I did not have time to investigate much about this issue. Here some interesting templates:
- commons:w:en:template:Unicode
using: <span class="Unicode">{{{1}}}</span> - commons:w:en:template:ArabDIN
using: <span lang="ar" title="DIN 31635 Arabic transliteration" class="Arabic Unicode" style="white-space: nowrap; text-decoration: none">{{{1}}}</span> - commons:template:description
using: <p class="description {{{1}}}"><span class="language" title="{{{name|{{{3|}}}}}}">'''{{{1}}}:'''</span> <span class="text" lang="{{{1}}}">{{{2|}}}</span></p>- commons:template:de
using: (between others) {{description|de|{{{1}}}|Deutsch}} where "Deutsch" is a default title
- commons:template:de
- commons:w:en:template:ar
using: <span lang="ar" title="Arabic text" dir="rtl" style="font-size:1.3em" class="spanAr">{{{1}}}</span>
We should try to involve pleople who worked on this topic before and adapt "a common standard". Best regards Gangleri | T 02:33, 14 March 2006 (CET)
- Consideration for RtL and LtR languages in the same sentence should also be made, I am not certain how xhtml handles the issue. - TheDaveRoss 02:37, 14 March 2006 (CET)
- template:dir rtl T and template:dir ltr T are available service templates now. Examples are available at the their talk pages. Gangleri · T 01:26, 27 March 2006 (CEST)

User interface
I would like to have OmegaWiki and its user interface in Vietnamese. I imagine that I would need to download some files, translate them into Vietnamese and then upload them to somewhere or someone; but I don't know where to find those files, or the people I should contact. Any help? Thank you in advance. Trần Thế Trung 13:28, 1 June 2006 (CEST)
Russian Main Page
I've just translated the Main Page into Russian. Please make the link "Main Page" in the "navigation" menu of Russian interface ("Заглавная страница" in Russian) lead directly to the Russian page. And please change the menu name "partners" for Russian "партнёры". I can't find the way to do this, I think I have no access to that.Shakura 05:24, 13 August 2006 (CEST)
Oh, I've just found out that there's the same problem with other languages' interfaces. Please correct it some way.--Shakura 05:27, 13 August 2006 (CEST)
Done. Details (how to) to be found in Insect room --Purodha Blissenbach 10:13, 18 September 2006 (CEST)
Words in the news
I like what Wiktionary does with the "Words in the news" page, and I was thinking maybe something like that could go on the OmegaWiki main page (under the Word of the Day). To make the columns level, maybe the "Recent milestones" could be limited to eight-ten entries. Just a thought! -Rappo 01:47, 9 October 2006 (CEST)
about translations
Not sure I choosed the good way but I feel it is important to keep at least links to translation pages of the Meta:Main_Page even if there are a bit outdated (or if their layout is a bit late) luna 10:24, 25 July 2007 (EDT)
