Sorry, I had to delete the English sentences - there's for now no way to find out who translated them - at least the German ones are the original ones that Georg Wenker used to study local languages in Germany doing its firt steps in 1876. The idea is to create these sentences in all languages and dialects and record also the pronunciation.

In that way we will really see the differences between one and the other dialect/language wherever in the world - and it can be compared with the existing ones (if people allow us to use them) and researchers and linguists can use our material.

So what is needed now is a new translation into English from these 40 sentences.

Following are the original sentences and spaces for their translations. The draft translations below were made by User:Rodasmith, who does not speak German well and is not professionally trained in translation. Please improve the translations:

1. Im Winter fliegen die trockenen Blätter in der Luft herum.

   In winter, the dry leaves fly around in the air.

2. Es hört gleich auf zu schneien, dann wird das Wetter wieder besser.

   It will stop snowing soon, and then the weather will improve.

3. Tu [Gib] Kohlen in den Ofen, damit die Milch bald zu kochen anfängt.

   Put some coals into the oven, so that the milk will start to boil.

4. Der gute alte Mann ist mit dem Pferd(e) auf dem Eis eingebrochen und in das kalte Wasser gefallen.

   The good old man has broken through the ice with his horse and has fallen into the cold water.

5. Er ist vor vier oder sechs Wochen gestorben.

   He died four or six weeks ago.

6. Das Feuer war zu heiß; die Kuchen sind ja unten ganz schwarz gebrannt.

   The fire was too hot; the cakes are all burned black underneath.

7. Er ißt [isst] die Eier immer ohne Salz und Pfeffer.

   He always eats eggs without salt and pepper.

8. Die Füße tun mir (so sehr) weh. Ich glaube, ich habe sie (mir) durchgelaufen.

   My feet hurt so much. I think I've walked them through.

9. Ich bin selber bei der Frau gewesen und habe es ihr gesagt, und sie sagte, sie wolle es auch ihrer Tochter sagen.

   I was with the woman and told her, and she said she wanted to tell her daughter.

10. Ich will es auch nicht mehr wieder tun/machen.

    I don't want to do it again.

11. Ich schlage dich gleich mit dem Kochlöffel um die Ohren, du Affe.

    I'll hit your head with the ladle, you ape.

12. Wo gehst du (denn) hin? Sollen wir mitgehen (mit dir gehen)?

    Where are you going? Should we go with you?

13. Das/Es sind schlechte Zeiten.

    These are bad times.

21. Wem hat er (denn) die neue Geschichte erzählt?

    To whom did he tell the new story?

22. Man/Wir muß/müssen [muss/müssen] laut schreien, sonst versteht er uns nicht.

    One/We must shout loudly, otherwise he doesn't understand us.

23. Wir sind müde und haben Durst.

    We are tired and thirsty.

24. Als wir gestern abend heim/zurück kamen, da lagen die anderen schon im Bett und waren fest eingeschlafen/am schlafen.

    When we [returned home]/[got back] last night; the others lay in bed and were already deeply asleep.

30. Wieviel Pfund Wurst und wieviel Brot wollt ihr haben?

    How many pounds of sausage and how much bread do you want?

31. Ich verstehe euch nicht! Ihr müßt [müsst] ein bißchen lauter sprechen.

    I don't understand you. You must speak a bit louder.

32. Habt ihr kein Stückchen [kleines Stück] weiße Seife auf meinem Tisch(e) gefunden?

33. Sein Bruder will sich zwei schöne neue Häuser in eurem Garten bauen.

    The people are all out in the field, mowing today .

39. Geh nur! Der braune Hund tut dir nichts.

    Go on! The brown dog doesn't do you anything [doesn't hurt you].

40. Ich bin mit den Leuten da hinten über die Wiese ins Korn gefahren.

    I've driven over the meadow with those people behind.
