Welcome to OmegaWiki[edit]

Welcome to OmegaWiki, the Ultimate Wiktionary, glad you could come. OmegaWiki is an exciting new experimental project (nothing like it has been done before) aiming to unite all words in all languages. Naturally, it has many problems and we don't really know what we're doing yet. Please bear with us.

Currently, editing is very limited and only in the hands of a few trusted and experienced individuals but if you want to help, you can add {{Attention|<problems with article>}} to the talk page of articles with errors in them. Also, take a peek at your local portal (Portal:xxx, where xxx is the three-digit ISO 639-3 code for your language).

Please read about the DefinedMeaning :-)

Once again, glad you could make it! If you have any queries or questions, try the International Beer Parlour or IRC channel. The kind people there would be glad to help.--Sabine 15:11, 14 August 2006 (CEST)

A few things[edit]

  • I keep getting the "new messages" box (in talk page), although I've already visited there.
  • Are we planning to link to the native wiktionaries?
  • What about grammatical info such as saying the Expression:tag is ones a noun and ones a verb?
  • The hebrew interface is corrupted. How can it be fixed? (I'm not familiar with CSS)
  • For hebrew version of, say, DefinedMeaning page: Am I supposed to invent a hebrew translation for "DefinedMeaning"..?
  • Hebrew uses "nikud" instead of "aeiou". For example, "Greek" can be translated into יוונית or יְוָנִית. However, no one will type-in null-space chars in the search bar. What should I do in that case?

Thanks a lot, Mintz l 15:45, 8 October 2006 (CEST)

We now have part of speech support. Work on upgrading to the latest version of MediaWiki is in the pipe line (this will solve the problem with the messages (among other things). This may also affect the CSS .. As to the nikud. When it is valid, we want to have it. They are in essence alternate orthography and consequently they will be found together. Combining them is something that we will look into at some stage. (We are still pretty much pre-alpha and need developers to create better functionality and user experience. OLPC[edit]

Hi, as you might have already noted we are working on the OLPC Children's Dictionary. Actually I am the one trying to get as many people contributing as possible and therefore I prepared this message. I am wondering if you would like to help us and work on ten words: OLPC Children's Dictionary/1000 Basic words/Wordgroup 001. What does contribute mean? Translate the definitions and words into your mother tongue (heb) :-) I really hope to see your "Yes I will do" note on my discussion page :-) I will then add the template to make sure nobody else will work on these 10 words. Thank you! --Sabine 16:21, 9 October 2006 (CEST)

Hi![edit]

Hi Mintz l!

It's me, Dirk Gently, from the Hebrew Wiktionary (דירק ג'נטלי). I too fought and requested to add foreign languages to the Hebrew Wiktionary. I too decided to come here and contribute to OmegaWiki.

Say, did you get any answers to the questions you asked in the "A few things" section? I was also about to ask those questions and would be interested if you got any answers yet.

Thanks in advance,

Dirk Gently

Part of speech[edit]

Hoi, can you help us identify what part of speech exists for Hebrew. This will enable the annotation of words with this information. Thanks, GerardM 06:32, 26 December 2006 (EST)

You mean nouns, verbs, etc..? How do I do it? Where does the discussion for this takes place? Thanks, Mintz l 17:21, 26 December 2006 (EST)

Hebrew nikud[edit]

היי. כפי שאני הבנתי יש ליצור בינתיים ערכים עם ניקוד ובלי ניקוד כשהן נחשבות כמילים נרדפות עבור כל מילה. --Dirk gently 15:44, 13 January 2007 (EST)
