English definitions[edit]

Hi, we are working on a Children's dictionary for OLPC and I was wondering if you could help us to make some of the red links here blue. That would be really great! Maybe you could also add some translations for particular languages - well: if yes, just start from the main project page and if you have questions: please ask me :-) Thank you!!!--Sabine 09:12, 5 October 2006 (CEST)

Thank you so much for your help! --Sabine 02:40, 6 October 2006 (CEST)
What about one more term for OLPC ;-) OLPC Children's Dictionary/1000 Basic words/red links in English.Thank you!!!! --Sabine 16:30, 9 October 2006 (CEST)

Fixing Bulgarian capitalisation[edit]

Hi Rappo, thank you very much for fixing the issues with the Bulgarian capitalisation. However, you're missing a few steps after adding a syntrans: removing the incorrect expression. Please do the following:

  1. open a new tab with the incorrect expression from e.g. the English expression
  2. in the English expression remove the incorrectly capitalised expression by selecting the box in front of the incorrect expression and pressing save
  3. now DELETE the page with the incorrect expression you opened in step 1.
  4. also delete the accompanyin talkpage (you blanked them, but they'd be orphans after removal).

Oh, if you want to contribute a bit more in the area of cleaning up GEMET data, please take a look at this link that brings you to all expressions and please fix those you can see are incorrect as stated above. If you have any questions, please let me know. Please be aware that I'm currently not able to reply quickly. It might take until 19.00 CET. Cheers! Siebrand 13:20, 17 October 2006 (CEST)

Armenian alphabet template[edit]

.. It would be good if it were in Armeninan :) GerardM 08:14, 23 November 2006 (CET)

...Then why are the Greek alphabet templates not in Greek?
I can translate Armenian alphabet templates, but I believe that it has to be consistent with other templates (i.e. Greek templates in Greek;Arabic templates in Arabic etc.), which is really hard to do. The problem is that Cyrillic templates,for instance, can't be translated to Cyrillic language because there isn't one. Therefore, I think it is best if we keep the templates as is.--Togaed 10:27, 23 November 2006 (CET)

Thanks[edit]

Is there a chance to make a bot or something that will make Srebian latinic def. from Serbian Cyrillic? :) Срђан Весић 19:54, 19 December 2006 (EST)

Definite Articles[edit]

Well, I don't actually speak spanish and esperanto, not enough to add them in my babel templates. I added these définitions because they seemed to be really simple ones. French dictionaries don't put any article at the beginning of definitions like that so I guess I am just used to this kind of formulation. Now that I think about it, I guess it was just to save some space on paper editions, which is rather pointless here. Just add them if you feel like it and I think I will stop meddling with languages I don't actually know ;) Koxinga 18:35, 31 December 2006 (EST)

Names of persons in French[edit]

Hello, I see you changed Allemand=>allemand, and Allemande=>allemande in French. I changed it back. In fact, names of people (gentilics?) are capitalized in French. Do you have an idea of how many words you changed, so that I/we can go through them? Thanks. Kipcool 07:32, 25 January 2007 (EST)

Working SQL query[edit]

Hi, the following queries are working:

this one is like what you tried to do (also what is in SpecialNeedsTranslation.php). From what I have seen, it is fast like this but becomes superslow (I've not seen the end) if we don't check the remove_transaction_id. I am not sure exactly why.

USE omegawiki
SELECT source_dm.defined_meaning_id
FROM (uw_translated_content source_tc, uw_defined_meaning source_dm)
WHERE source_tc.language_id = 128
AND source_dm.meaning_text_tcid = source_tc.translated_content_id
AND source_tc.remove_transaction_id IS NULL
AND source_dm.remove_transaction_id IS NULL
AND NOT EXISTS ( SELECT *
FROM uw_defined_meaning destination_dm, uw_translated_content destination_tc
WHERE source_dm.defined_meaning_id = destination_dm.defined_meaning_id
AND destination_dm.meaning_text_tcid = destination_tc.translated_content_id
AND destination_tc.language_id = 129
AND destination_tc.remove_transaction_id IS NULL
AND destination_dm.remove_transaction_id IS NULL
)
LIMIT 100 ;

Alternatively, I have tried this one, also working. I don't know if one is faster than the other.

USE omegawiki
SELECT source_dm.defined_meaning_id
FROM (uw_translated_content source_tc, uw_defined_meaning source_dm)
WHERE source_tc.language_id = 128
AND source_dm.meaning_text_tcid = source_tc.translated_content_id
AND source_tc.remove_transaction_id IS NULL
AND source_dm.remove_transaction_id IS NULL
AND source_dm.defined_meaning_id NOT IN (
SELECT destination_dm.defined_meaning_id
FROM (uw_translated_content destination_tc, uw_defined_meaning destination_dm)
WHERE destination_tc.language_id = 129
AND destination_dm.meaning_text_tcid = destination_tc.translated_content_id
AND destination_tc.remove_transaction_id IS NULL
AND destination_dm.remove_transaction_id IS NULL
)
LIMIT 100 ;
Nice! Thanks, I'll try these out later and see how it goes :) -rappo 20:03, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
Excellent, it works! I modified it a bit to print out the correct table on the SpecialNeedsTranslation page (needed some data from the expression table):
$sql = 'SELECT source_ex.expression_id AS source_expression_id, source_ex.spelling AS source_spelling, source_dm.defined_meaning_id AS source_defined_meaning_id' .
" FROM ({$dc}_translated_content source_tc, {$dc}_defined_meaning source_dm, {$dc}_expression source_ex)" .
' WHERE source_tc.language_id = ' . $sourceLanguageId .
' AND source_dm.meaning_text_tcid = source_tc.translated_content_id' .
' AND source_ex.expression_id = source_dm.expression_id' .
' AND source_tc.remove_transaction_id IS NULL' .
' AND source_dm.remove_transaction_id IS NULL' .
' AND NOT EXISTS (' .
	' SELECT *' .
	" FROM ({$dc}_defined_meaning destination_dm, {$dc}_translated_content destination_tc)" .
	' WHERE source_dm.defined_meaning_id = destination_dm.defined_meaning_id' .
	' AND destination_dm.meaning_text_tcid = destination_tc.translated_content_id' .
	' AND destination_tc.language_id = ' . $destinationLanguageId .
	' AND destination_tc.remove_transaction_id IS NULL' .
	' AND destination_dm.remove_transaction_id IS NULL' .
') LIMIT 100';
So now Expression->Expression and Definition->Definition is working... time to mix them up! I'll let you know if I have any trouble combining them, you seem to know more SQL than me :P -rappo 00:34, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
Cool :-) Small note before you send your patch: there will be a patch for "SpecialNeedsTranslation.php" from me that should be commited later this week (the one that changes links to Expression to links to DM). So maybe it's better if you wait that it is commited before submitting your patch (when it is ready) to avoid conflicts (even though I expect there will be none, since I've not touched the SQL, only the editors at the bottom of the php). --Kipcool 07:27, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
PS: my patch has been applied. Now, I have one week of holiday :) --Kipcool 18:01, 8 September 2009 (UTC)
