Hoi Siebrand,
Welkom op OmegaWiki.. Ik hoop dat je veel plezier zult hebben op dit nieuwe project. Wanneer je geinteresseerd bent, lees dan over de DefinedMeaning wanneer je vragen hebt, stel ze bijvoorbeeld op IRC.. Groetjes, GerardM 06:39, 2 June 2006 (CEST)

Sorry[edit]

Sorry for disturbing with too much tofu --Sabine 00:13, 19 July 2006 (CEST)

No problem. I think you were editing there before I was. ;-). In the end, everything ended up fine, didn't it? Siebrand 09:50, 19 July 2006 (CEST)

Edit conflicts[edit]

Hi, it seems we had some sort of edit conflict on Expression:queen that wiktz did not handle very gracefully. It seems your Dutch definitions got lost... --Sannab 16:33, 21 July 2006 (CEST)

Arg! I created all of them... Well, I'll fix in a bit. Please let me know when you're done there. Please don't edit on 'quetion'. I'm still entering Dutch and English definitions. Siebrand 16:35, 21 July 2006 (CEST)

Hello and thanks[edit]

Thanks for the welcome, I am at the conference about OmegaWiki now and thought I would sign up :) - cohesion 21:10, 5 August 2006 (CEST)

Native greek speakers[edit]

Hi Siebrand. I just put the announcement in the greek parlour. But, to tell you the truth, I don't know how to help in the WZ. I created myself a user account here many months ago (and filled my babel templates) but I can't really understand how to participate. Shame on me, but I never asked that in public :-) Could you give me some hints? Thanks in advance, --Lou 00:19, 13 August 2006 (CEST)

RE: Speculaas[edit]

Yes, but they're the words used in English too. All the recipes in English say them, and I can't see a good alternative. I just made them - they're delicious! Thanks and regards, —Celestianpower Háblame 13:16, 15 August 2006 (CEST)

Expression:ToBeDeleted[edit]

Siebrand, a few days ago you deleted Expression:ToBeDeleted, but now it cannot be used anylonger. I created a new one Expression:tobedeleted. Please don't delete this expression although the name suggests the contrary. It is used to be able to move unwanted DM's to, to me able to remove them when the databse bug is fixed. HenkvD 23:19, 4 September 2006 (CEST)

OK. Best add a description on the talk page and in a DM, so that it will not happen again? Siebrand 23:21, 4 September 2006 (CEST)
Descriptions are there now for the new one. HenkvD 23:24, 4 September 2006 (CEST)

OLPC[edit]

Hi, as you might have already noted we are working on the OLPC Children's Dictionary. Actually I am the one trying to get as many people contributing as possible and therefore I prepared this message. I am wondering if you would like to help us and work on ten words: OLPC Children's Dictionary/1000 Basic words/Wordgroup 011. What does contribute mean? Translate the definitions and words into your mother tongue (nld) :-) I really hope to see your "Yes I will do" note on my discussion page :-) I will then add the template to make sure nobody else will work on these 10 words. Thank you! --Sabine 21:02, 9 October 2006 (CEST)

groups - OLPC[edit]

Thank you Siebrand! you are doing really great work. --Sabine 14:33, 16 October 2006 (CEST)

Thanks, Sabine. Siebrand 14:34, 16 October 2006 (CEST)

Bulgarian capitals[edit]

Hey, thanks for letting me know - I forgot I had the power to do that :P I'll look into cleaning up the others! -Rappo 15:19, 17 October 2006 (CEST)

Glad to meet you[edit]

I am really glad to meet you. I was really desperate and ingending to leave as I thought that everybody here underestimated the amount and difficulty of the work to be done and that the project would be a failure. Andres 00:59, 30 October 2006 (CET)

Hi! Please do not feel neglected. It's like I said in the Beer Parlour: we still have a fairly small user base which is very active in its own field. Some users clean up GEMET data like crazy, others add words like crazy. All this to get to a stage where we will have a real dictionary. Many of the group aspects we see in the larger wikis are not (yet) present here: we are all admins - and are as such expected to act responsibly and take responsibility -, and we have very little policy, partly because we do not need it, partly because we do not want it (yet).
I do recognise that this approach takes more effort from newcomers like you. I became involved in the project when we were not even able to edit the relational data. Each and every edit function and access to namespaces was added gradually and I had the time to get used to it.
My advice, as given both in general and to you specifically: take charge, be precise, do not compromise. But be patient. DO use IRC and if possible have a Skype name.
Cheers! Siebrand 08:03, 30 October 2006 (CET)
Yes I won't compromise. And I will be patient.
Are you certain that I cannot survive without IRC and Skype? I don't think this is normal. I think all discussions should be public. Or else, the project is not public enough. Andres 11:14, 30 October 2006 (CET)
It has nothing to do with secrecy, but everything with speed and attention... Browsing recent changes and checking watchlists isn't everybody's favourite activity :-) Siebrand 12:18, 30 October 2006 (CET)
OK, I have enough patience. It isn't crucial to get the answer immediately. I understand that it has nothing to do with secrecy. But I think that first, discussions should be documented as far as possible because they are useful for others, and second, browsing recent changes and checking watchlists is a sine qua non of a wiki cooperation. Andres 12:25, 30 October 2006 (CET)

WiktionaryZ -> OmegaWiki[edit]

Hey, I noticed that you were going through pages changing all instances of WiktionaryZ to OmegaWiki. I saw that you were doing it pretty rapidly... are you using some sort of automater? If so, maybe you could change all the Russian and Serbian pages. WiktionaryZ was translated to ВикисловарИ in Russian, but OmegaWiki would be ОмегаВики. It was translated to ВикиречникЗ in Serbian (cyrillic), and it would also be ОмегаВики. The latin alphabet Serbian has it as VikirečnikZ but it would be changed to OmegaViki. If you aren't using some sort of automater to make the process quicker, I'll gladly change these things on my own. Thanks, Rappo 20:10, 14 December 2006 (EST)

I'm not using a bot; all handy work, unfortunately; I would love to have a bot here. Since I'm not comfortable in any script but Latin, I'm going to have to pass on the invitation... Siebrand 06:13, 15 December 2006 (EST)
That's some pretty fast handy work! Alrighty, I'll get to that one of these days. -Rappo 09:27, 15 December 2006 (EST)
Looks like User:HenkvD has done all of the work in that area. I think we've got all relevant references replaced now. Siebrand 06:58, 24 December 2006 (EST)

Mediawiki namespace[edit]

Oh, ok; I was wondering why so much of the messages are untranslated anyway. Thanks for the notice, I won't waste time in that namespace further.

What I was actually looking for is to translate those "Serbian (Cyrillic script)" and "Serbian (Latin script)" language tags, 'cause it annoys me - name of English language is translated in Serbian, but names of Serbian language aren't ;-). Can you help me with that? --BraneJ 03:38, 23 December 2006 (EST)

Please check in with User:GerardM. I havent gotten around to getting to know what to do for that yet.
This is a problem we have not only for Serbian but also for Mandarin .. it is of the list of things that need fixing.. it is not the only thing that needs fixing I am afraid .. we need more developers. Thanks, GerardM 18:59, 23 December 2006 (EST)
