Welcome to OmegaWiki[edit]

Welcome to OmegaWiki, the Ultimate Wiktionary, glad you could come. OmegaWiki is an exciting new experimental project (nothing like it has been done before) aiming to unite all words in all languages. Naturally, it has many problems and we don't really know what we're doing yet. Please bear with us.

Currently, editing is very limited and only in the hands of a few trusted and experienced individuals but if you want to help, you can add {{Attention|<problems with article>}} to the talk page of articles with errors in them. Also, take a peek at your local portal (Portal:xxx, where xxx is the three-digit ISO 639-3 code for your language).

Please read about the DefinedMeaning :-)

Once again, glad you could make it! If you have any queries or questions, try the International Beer Parlour or IRC channel. The kind people there would be glad to help.--Sabine 18:54, 7 October 2006 (CEST)

Hi, as you might have already noted we are working on the OLPC Children's Dictionary. Actually I am the one trying to get as many people contributing as possible and therefore I prepared this message. I am wondering if you would like to help us and work on some of the words on this list: OLPC Children's Dictionary/1000 Basic words/red links in English adding the missing defined meanings. It would be really great :-) Thank you! --Sabine 18:17, 8 October 2006 (CEST)

Part of Speech requests[edit]

Hey Leftmost, once again my utter praises on the Part of Speech functionality.

I'd like to request 2 minor tweaks:

  • Sort the Class attributes option display alphabetically by 'language, option' (see DefinedMeaning:lexical item (402295))
  • Sort the Class attributes option by language display by 'option' when adding a new annotation

Ideas on additional functionality:

  • A list of SynTrans records in 'MyLanguage' with Definition to have PoS annotated

  • If I add a PoS annotation to a syntrans and I want to remove it without saving and then removing this is not possible. I can remove the attribute, but not the attribute value (the actual PoS element). When saving the record, the value of the attribute is still saved with the correctpoding attribute. (is this clear enough?).

Hi, I just wanted to Annotate Expression:stattdessen as Wordtype conjunction ("Konjunktion" or "Bindewort" in German). But the wordtype is not selectable. Can you fix that? Thanks, MovGP0 18:23, 16 January 2007 (EST)

Syriac translation request[edit]

I have a response from my translator... mind, these are 11th-15th century translation.

ܐܝܬ ܩܛܐ ܒܫܪܒܠܝ
"There is a cat in my wide trousers", transliteration: eeth qata b-sharbal(y)
ܐܝܬ ܠܝ ܩܛܐ ܒܫܪܒܠܝ
"I possess a cat in my wide trousers" transliteration: eeth lee qata b-sharbal(y)
ܐܚܕ ܐܢܐ ܩܛܐ ܒܫܪܒܠܝ
"I am holding a cat in my wide trousers" transliteration: akhedh (')na qata b-sharbal(y) [pronunciation note: kh is is the Scottish 'ch' in "loch," and 'dh' is like 'th' in "there"]

Translation of variant languages[edit]

Hi, Leftmost. Gerard said you know this code best :). I was wondering if it would be possible to translate the languages Portuguese (Portugal) and Portuguese (Brazil). AFAIK there is no editable way of doing this. Can it be done directly in the database? The correct translations to Portuguese would be português (Portugal) and português (Brasil). Thanks, Malafaya 06:59, 22 May 2007 (EDT)

Removing empty expressions[edit]

Hi Leftmost, there are still a lot of empty expressions that originated from Bulgarian expressions with capitals. For example Expression:Вода за промишлена употреба. I have been removing a lot manually. More than 80 % of the these are empty expressions. Maybe you can clean these with a bot. Apart from these Bulgarian capitals there are probably a lot of other expressions that were removed from DefinedMeanings but were not deleted. HenkvD 08:44, 2 June 2007 (EDT)
